Below are the Animal & Human Projects which we support.
1.
The Lassie - The Langkawi Animal Shelter & Sanctuary Foundation and Langkawi Animal Klinic,
The Langkawi Animal Shelter and Sanctuary Foundation is set-up to receive, rehabilitate and care for neglected, abused and needy animals. The organization also runs the Langkawi Island Animal Clinic - a charity project aimed at the sterilization of the stray cat population. Both are non profit ventures, staffed by volunteers and aimed at improving the lives of unwanted animals. The Sanctuary has a no-kill policy and cares for animals whose age, disposition or disability make them unlikely to find homes. Many of our animals are road accident or trauma cases and therefore need special love and attention. For stray cats which are on the streets, they are trapped and sterilized, then returned to their normal habitat. An adoption centre is also in operation. Animals put up for adoption are spayed, neutered, dewormed and vaccinated. Any wildlife brought to the shelter are treated and once healthy are then returned back to nature.
If you are interested (whether you are a vet or not) in volunteering some time at either the clinic or the shelter please contact info@bontonresort.com.au

There are also hundreds of stray dogs begging for food on the beaches and in the streets. Most of the dogs live in small packs and remain within their territory. This territory is defended by the whole pack and it is very hard for new dogs to join a pack. Until April 1999 there was no vet on the island and medical treatment for animals was impossible.

Animals Australia, Melbourne, Victoria www.animalsaustralia.org
Animals Australia is Australia's largest and most dynamic national animal protection organisation, representing some 40 member societies and thousands of individual suporters throughout Australia.
Animals Australia has an unprecedented track record in investigating and exposing animal cruelty. In the past four years our work has resulted in four 60 Minutes segments exposing the cruelty in the live export trade and further segments highlighting animal cruelty on Today Tonight, Four Corners and Landline. Investigations in the Middle East have resulted in the first ever suspension of the live export trade (to Egypt) and to a benchmark prosecution of a live export company for cruelty.
Animals Australia believes that we can create a better world for all through promoting kindness to animals. Our goal is to significantly and permanently improve the welfare of all animals in Australia.
We are committed and unrelenting. We expose suffering, we educate the broader community, we research alternatives and we passionately and intelligently lobby governments to effect changes in laws to protect all animals. We have representation on all major state and national welfare committees.
We are a non profit charitable organisation financed through community support. Our important work on behalf of animals is reliant on the generosity of our members and donors.

ARRC (Anti - Vivisection Union (SA) http://www.arrc.org.au/
Some people think you are soft if you care about animals but what's soft about wanting to stop the torture of animals. Animals are blinded, scalded, electrocuted, paralysed, burned, driven mad, turned into drug addicts and given diseases in animal experiments. Animals are used to test a whole range of substances, such as weed killers, tobacco, cosmetics, polishes, hairsprays and drugs.
Dogs are poisoned to death to test the lethal dosage of such products as oven cleaners. Most companies still use un-anaethetised animals who are force fed or injected with enough of the product to kill 50% of the test animals within 14 days. Most of the animals haemorrhage to death.Cosmetics, detergents and other household products are dripped into rabbit's eyes and are rubbed into the shaven skin of guinea pigs.

WARNING : IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE VIEWING THE NEXT BATCH OF PHOTOS THEN PLEASE THINK SERIOUSLY ABOUT CHECKING THAT NONE OF YOUR PERSONAL OR HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS
ARE TESTED ON ANIMALS AND DO SOMETHING TO ACTIVELY CAMPAIGN TO BAN ALL TESTING ON ANIMALS. JOIN AN ANTI VIVISECTION ORGANISATION.
We have placed these pictures here as a stark reminder that animals are suffering behind locked doors in the secret world of the laboratory EVERY day. Unfortunately, there is no "nice" way to present vivisection - it's cruel, misleading and evil! Therefore, we do not apologise for the graphic content of these photographs. A picture paints a thousand words and these photographs tell a very tragic story. WALK OF SHAME PHOTOS

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust - Elephant Orphanage, Nairobi http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a small charity, established in memory of David Sheldrick, famous Naturalist and founder Warden of Kenya's giant Tsavo East National Park in which he served from 1948 until 1976.
Since its inception in 1977 the Trust has played an extremely significant and important role in Kenya's conservation effort. Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick along with Six Trustees assisted by an Advisory Committee of practical Naturalists with a lifetime experience of African conditions oversee and direct the operations of the Trust.
Helping save the lives of orphaned Elephants and Rhinos who are ultimately released back into the wild is just some of the many wildlife commitments The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is involved in. The Trust runs seven full time Desnaring teams, two mobile Veterinary Units, and is active in a Community Outreach Program along with working with the communities in an educational capacity locally, and through articles for the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya, the Press and Radio Programs. The Trust has also provided advanced training in wildlife management for promising students.
The Trust provides continual support for The Kenyan Wildlife Service through our Desnaring efforts within the Tsavo Ecosystem and the Mobile Veterinary Units, but also through support of security fuel, and electrically fencing sensitive National Park boundaries, alleviating human wildlife conflict. The Trust supports indigenous tree nurseries, and water projects in both Tsavo National Park and in the bordering community areas.
With Compassion & Soul has been sponsoring an orphaned elephant called KORA for several years now. Kora was a calf aged about 6 months, found wandering all alone, with no elephants anywhere near, along a remote road in KORA National Park on Thursday 21st April, the erstwhile home of George Adamson and his famous lions. He was found by Rangers on patrol from Meru National Park, about 50 kms from the nearest source of water, extremely emaciated and weak. What damaged his jaw is a mystery. It could have perhaps been the result of a bullet, or possibly a spear injury, or it may have been as a result of a fall on a sharp stump but what was evident from the initial examination was a dent in the jawbone, and possibly a piece of bone has been displaced and could be causing the deep-seated sepsis that was treated for months and months before it finally healed. Kora is now about 2yrs old and is hanging with older elephants sometimes, eventually she will wander away with a herd for good but not for a little while yet.

NoiStar - Thai Animal Rescue Foundation Koh Tao, Thailand http://www.kohtaoanimalclinic.org/
The Foundation takes its name from two dogs - Noi & Star rescued from the island of Koh Tao, Thailand. In 2002 the Foundation helped to fund a temporary clinic on the island, run by veterinarian Beata Chodakowska.
In July 2004 we opened the first permanent vet clinic on the island and have to date treated over 5,000 animals. On Koh Tao there is no RSPC, no PDSA, no animal's shelters, no sanctuaries, and before our clinic virtually no medical care of any kind for the animal population. Ravaged by mange, hungry and often abused, many of them didn't survive. With your help we are changing this.

SPCA - Penang http://www.spca-penang.net/
The SPCA Penang, formerly known as RSPCA, was founded in 1948. It is a non-profit community-based organization whose primary roles are those of protecting and caring for animals. Despite the Society's heavy overhead costs and low public financial support, and with no State aid, the Society has been functioning against all odds. Nevertheless, the Society has since progressed by leaps and bounds. Today, it continues to be held together and maintained by a small group of devoted members who take an interest in furthering the welfare of animals. It runs almost entirely on public donations and funds raised through fund raising activities and selling of it’s merchandise.
SPCA's Objectives and Role
SPCA's main objectives are to prevent the unnecessary suffering of animals and to ensure responsible pet ownership. Hence the Society acts to prevent cruelty to animals and promotes kindness towards them by fostering an intelligent public interest regarding Man's duty animals.Though the Society is sometimes compelled to euthanize an animal, our work covers a much wider scope of rescuing, rehabilitating, healing and re-homing the animals.
SPCA's Services
· Patrol the State investigating complaints of cruelty and neglect; visiting markets, eating stalls and all the areas where animals may be at risk.
· Collect unwanted animals to be cared, treated and put up for adoption.
· Provide transport to pet owners who find difficulty in sending their pets to the veterinary clinic for vaccinations and treatment
· Educate and guide pet owners. Talks on animal protection are given in schools and to community groups.
· Provide treatment to sick and injured animals at its clinic.

Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Australia www.orangutans.com.au
The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS) is a not-for-profit foundation supported by thirteen sister organizations around the world. BOS works under an official agreement with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry for the conservation of orangutans and their ecosystem by involving and educating the local people. BOS is presently running the world's largest primate conservation project and employs more than 200 permanent staff. BOS' interests cover biodiversity issues (flora and fauna), forest rehabilitation, forest inventory and monitoring (through its company PT SarVision Indonesia), agroforestry (to improve local peoples' welfare and education), as well as working with orangutans and other protected wildlife.
BOS was formed in 1991 when Dr Willie Smits, a tropical forest ecologist and senior advisor to the Minister of Forestry of Indonesia, found a sick orangutan in the local market. He managed to keep her alive and was then given a second problematic baby, and had to care for the two of them.
Since its incorporation BOS has achieved an enviable track record of success. It has purchased thousands of acres of land to become eternal nature reserves owned by BOS, assisted in the confiscation of more than one thousand orangutans with their subsequent reintroduction into the wild, and by educated and provided livelihoods for thousands of local people.
In Australia, BOS Australia has been raising funds since 2001. Since this time thousands of dollars have been sent back to the various projects due to the generosity of the BOS donars and the dilligent work of the BOS volunteers. BOS Australia aims to support the BOS's activities in Borneo
