100% plant based, palm oil free MASCARA RECIPE (not water proof)
4½ tsp Australian black clay
½ tsp Australian red reef clay
Pinch guar gum
¼ tsp glycerine ( needs to be derived from coconut or a source other than palm oil)
1¾ tsp water
Stir together the clays and
guar gum in a small dish. Add the glycerin and water. Stir/mash to
combine (you may have to add more water, but be cautious—too much water will
give you a mascara that is not viscous enough to apply/have any effect).
You can store it in a new
mascara tube if you have one (seriously, do not try to clean out an old one,
that is an exercise in futility, only to then discover that you will not
actually be able to get any mascara through the tiny hole at the top). However,
I find I prefer to keep it in a small 5g jar, where I can dip my brush in and then
wipe off the excess to my taste.
When applying, be sure to
experiment with different brushes /I find bristly ones work better than the
silicone/plasticy/spikey ones.
WATERPROOF MASCARA
2 tsp coconut oil
4 tsp aloe vera gel
1 tsp finely grated soy wax or 1/2 tsp of melted candelilla wax
1 – 2 capsules of activated charcoal (for black) or cocoa
powder (for brown)
a clean mascara container and brush
* Due to temperature differences you may want to add
more wax to give more “hold” to your mascara. Keep in mind that coconut oil is
a liquid above 75 degrees.
**Activated
charcoal can be found in most health food stores or online
Directions:
1. Put coconut oil, aloe vera gel, and wax in a small saucepan
over low heat. Stir until wax is completely melted.
2. Open 1 – 2 capsules of activated charcoal (depending on
desired color, about 1/4 – 1/2 tsp) and pour into oil mixture. Stir until
completely incorporated. Remove from heat.
3. Syringe the mascara from saucepan into container. 6 month
shelf life.
